Tree removal

Estimates, not quotes. Reviewed October 8, 2026.
TreeEstimated priceTypical method
Small, under about 30 ft$250–$700Felled whole in open ground
Medium, 30–60 ft$700–$1,800Usually climbed and partly sectioned
Large, or over a roof, pool cage or line$1,800–$4,500Rigging, lift or crane
Palm$300–$1,200Height

Height sets the baseline, but what's under the tree sets the method, and the method sets the price. A 50-foot slash pine in an empty back lot can come down in an hour. The same pine leaning over a screen enclosure needs a climber, ropes and a ground crew for most of a day. More on tree removal.

Tree trimming and palm trimming

Estimates, not quotes. Reviewed October 8, 2026.
TreeEstimated priceTypical setup
Small or ornamental tree$150–$450Pole saw from the ground
Medium shade tree$400–$900One climber
Large live oak or laurel oak$900–$2,000Climber plus ground crew, often a full day
Sabal, queen or foxtail palm$75–$175 eachLadder or pole saw
Royal, coconut or tall Washingtonia$150–$350 eachLift or climber

Trimming is priced on the work in the canopy, not the size of the tree alone. A big live oak that was thinned two years ago costs less than a smaller laurel oak that has never been touched and is full of deadwood. See tree trimming and palm tree trimming.

Stump grinding

Estimates, not quotes. Reviewed October 8, 2026.
JobEstimated priceHow it's measured
First stump$150–$400Diameter at ground level
Each additional stump$75–$200Same visit
Large stumps$3–$6 per inch of diameterMeasured across the cut; $150 minimum

Adding grinding to a removal is the cheapest way to do it, because the machine only makes one trip. More on stump grinding.

Emergency and storm work

Estimates, not quotes. Reviewed October 8, 2026.
SituationEstimated priceWhat moves it
Limb or small tree across a drive$300–$1,200Size and how it's hung up
Tree on a roof$1,500–$5,000Crane, rigging, hour of the call

Emergency jobs cost more per hour of work because they're done fast, often in bad conditions, with an on-call crew. Where a tree has hit a covered structure, insurance often pays a large part. More on emergency service.

Lot and land clearing

Estimates, not quotes. Reviewed October 8, 2026.
JobEstimated priceWhat moves it
Overgrown side yard or thicket$500–$2,500Volume to haul
Lightly wooded, per acre$2,000–$5,000Tree count
Heavily wooded, per acre$4,000–$9,000Felling, grinding, disposal

Clearing estimates swing more on tree count and disposal than on acreage alone. More on land clearing.

What pushes a Stuart tree job up or down

  • What's underneath. Pool cages, screen enclosures, tile roofs, docks and boat lifts all mean rigging instead of dropping.
  • Access. A side gate wide enough for a loader saves hours of hand-carrying. Waterfront lots in Sewall's Point and along the St. Lucie River often have no truck access to the back at all.
  • Soft ground. After summer rain, sandy lawns need mats under every machine.
  • Power lines. Trees near FPL lines can need the utility involved first, which adds time.
  • Tree condition. Hollow or dead trees can't be climbed safely and often need a lift or crane.
  • Volume. Several trees in one visit cost less per tree than one at a time.

What should be in the price

Ask every company the same questions, and get the answers in writing:

  • Is the stump included, or a separate line?
  • Are the logs hauled away, or left cut on the lawn?
  • Will the lawn, beds and driveway be raked and blown off?
  • Is there current liability and workers' comp coverage, with certificates sent from the agent?
  • Is a permit needed, and who is responsible for getting it?

Our written estimates answer all five on the page.

Why local quotes disagree

National cost guides average every kind of yard in the country. In Stuart the drivers are specific: storm-season demand, canal and river lots with no back access, a lot of screen enclosures, and a mix of fast-growing laurel oaks and tall palms that need lifts. Two honest local quotes can still differ by hundreds of dollars when one crew plans to drop the tree and the other plans to rig it down. Ask each company how it will take the tree down. It will tell you more than the total.

Price questions

Why do tree quotes in Stuart vary so much?

Because companies are pricing different jobs under the same name. One quote may leave the logs and the stump; another includes grinding and a raked lawn. Some crews carry workers' comp and some don't, which can be a large share of the difference. Line the quotes up on cleanup, stump, insurance and method before comparing totals.

Is the estimate visit free?

Yes. We come out, look at the tree and give you a written price at no charge and with no obligation.

Do you charge by the hour or by the job?

By the job. The written price is the price, unless you add work on the day.

Is tree removal cheaper outside hurricane season?

Often in practice, yes. From late spring through the season, crews are booked solid and emergency work pushes routine jobs back. Winter and early spring give you the most choice of dates.

Does homeowner's insurance cover tree removal?

Usually only when a tree has fallen on a covered structure. Routine or preventive removal is the owner's cost. See emergency tree service for how we document storm jobs for a claim.
